Packing methods for steel world maps

When it comes to ensuring the safe delivery of steel world maps, particularly the stainless steel varieties,
thorough packing methods are crucial. Unlike their wooden counterparts, steel world maps demand extra attention due to their weight and sturdiness.

Size and weight considerations

Steel world maps, being heavier, require robust protection to prevent scratches or damage during shipping. The impact of a fall, for instance, needs a sturdy outer packaging to safeguard the bigger and heavy pieces. To keep the heavy continents secure, we use pot-magnets that are included for the installation, and tie-wraps. Everything applied by hand. Customised maps require even more care. Depending on the client's preferred size and thickness, each component is measured and weighed before selecting a suitable casing. Larger and thicker formats may even need to divide the continents into multiple boxes to ease handling.

Customisation process

For standard stainless steel world maps, a default packing protocol with standard materials and installation kit suffices. However, customisation demands extra attention. We carefully measure and weigh all items to determine the necessary packing materials and redesign the installation manual accordingly. This step is as crucial as cutting and engraving the map itself since dimensions and weight dictate the final mounting system.

Packing techniques

Once the manual is redesigned and all installation parts collected, we determine the size of the carton suitcase and how each component should be secured. In some instances, particularly with large and thick formats, continents may be split into multiple boxes to ease transportation. This ensures that both the UPS driver at our workshop and those around the globe can handle the load safely.
