The perfect lighting

The presentation of your wall decor in a certain space is influenced by several factors. These include the wall decoration itself, the surroundings and accompanying objects, the type and colour of the wall, and most crucially, the lighting that highlights the wall decoration. This principle holds true for world wall maps, especially those crafted from metal.

Lighting plays a pivotal role

The appropriate lighting in a room can significantly enhance or detract from the overall ambiance. Excessive lighting can expose imperfections such as stains and dust, which are often inevitable in frequently used spaces. On the other hand, insufficient lighting can create a sense of claustrophobia that detracts from the desired atmosphere. Achieving the perfect balance of lighting for your space and decor is an art that requires careful consideration.
We'll have a look at two examples demonstrating how magnetic stainless steel world maps are showcased to their best advantage with optimal lighting.

In the featured photo, a stainless steel world map installed in Virginia Beach is illuminated by natural light streaming in through windows opposite the wall. This illumination accentuates the map and its laser-engraved country borders. Without this ample daylight, the borders might be barely visible, obscured by shadows. Occasionally, minor grease stains may be noticeable, but these can be easily removed with a specialised stainless steel cleaner/polish, preferably one without granules that could damage the surface.

As darkness descends, the appearance of the steel map undergoes a transformation. Its colour tends to shift towards a subdued grey, and depending on the direction and intensity of the lighting, the drop shadow can become more pronounced, imparting a striking 3D effect. This effect is a result form the unique mounting of these exclusive world maps, positioned 10 mm (0.39 inches from the wall. A prime example of this phenomenon is illustrated in the photograph below, featuring a stainless steel map installed in Rockville. Here, ceiling spots illuminate the map, casting shadows that contribute to its luxurious and sophisticated appearance, as intended.
